Fishers, IN, December 18, 2008 – Business members of the Fishers Chamber of Commerce donated more than 1,500 non-perishable items, and 1,039 pounds of food to the “Generated by the Power of Giving” food drive, sponsored by Duke Energy and co-sponsored by the chamber. The chamber asked businesses to donate at least five non-perishable items to the food drive on December 17. Some businesses took it upon themselves to hold their own food drives then donate all of their food to the “Generated by the Power of Giving” food drive.
Food that was collected was donated to the Come to Me Food Pantry at Fishers United Methodist Church. The food pantry is open every Wednesday from 1 p.m. – 7 p.m.
“We serve our clients enough food for seven dinner meals, lunches, breakfast and snacks. A family of four usually has about 80 pounds of food,” said Linda Williams, director of the Come to Me Food Pantry.
Williams said in an email that the food the Fishers Chamber of Commerce donated would generally feed 13 families for one week.
“When you see all of that food you think it will go a long way, but it goes very quickly,” she said.
